Scared stiff? You bet!!</p><p>This was not easy!!!! What do you do when you’ve quilted using a domestic sewing machine or a sit down longarm for 12 or 13 years!?!?!? Well, you go to Joann’s and by a 90” x 90” piece of muslin on sale and quilt your little heart out!! And I did!! It took several sessions before I would risk quilting a quilt on my own but it was time to give it a try and learn to accept less than perfection! Not that I’m perfect, but definitely particular!</p><p>Here’s the first one; I completed this quilt top several years ago! It was made with a jelly roll along and some background strips. For quilting, I used a hook with scallops for the inner portion and feathers on the outside. Now that took courage if you know me!! But they’re not bad!</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_yVfQ5iSYVE/YA4HnQchHPI/AAAAAAAAEJA/gtUYFemakG0085knfl6Ly6v-L3e7QL-DACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/7A5F92A7-DD49-456F-89D1-E0B6BE2432EA.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_yVfQ5iSYVE/YA4HnQchHPI/AAAAAAAAEJA/gtUYFemakG0085knfl6Ly6v-L3e7QL-DACNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/7A5F92A7-DD49-456F-89D1-E0B6BE2432EA.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gg6ykVNz-RE/YA4HnnngkcI/AAAAAAAAEJI/9mqc6CblKQ09pOf0CUvkvaRUN2bKYBOtQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/417E1DCC-1EA8-460D-8046-97C12A50239A.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gg6ykVNz-RE/YA4HnnngkcI/AAAAAAAAEJI/9mqc6CblKQ09pOf0CUvkvaRUN2bKYBOtQCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/417E1DCC-1EA8-460D-8046-97C12A50239A.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fnnio1R7DR0/YA4HniQHPlI/AAAAAAAAEJE/rfzp1G5kqEoNfWvObOIt2TnYend8r99VgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/DA754556-04EF-41DC-A29F-3E41CAF06789.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fnnio1R7DR0/YA4HniQHPlI/AAAAAAAAEJE/rfzp1G5kqEoNfWvObOIt2TnYend8r99VgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DA754556-04EF-41DC-A29F-3E41CAF06789.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Bev spent quite a bit of time on a kit she was given and asked me quilt this paisley design taken from Whirls and Swirls out of Canada. So today I’ll introduce my somewhat new friend!</p><p>Meet Pearl! Our former faithful companion, Cowboy, whom some may have seen in posts or on videos, passed away more than a year ago. It was very difficult as the final year of his life was tough. So we decided we weren’t ready to give our hearts to another for awhile. But, this past fall we learned about Pearl and she won our hearts!! Pearl is a hunter and truly never stops moving except when she’s exhausted; even then it takes effort. But she brings great joy to our hearts and we absolutely adore her lively and happy personality.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jigwhtvlP7U/YAcf5pT6QmI/AAAAAAAAEGo/Gnk5y0dOfa0XcrBxXevxFU59Q9OYMguTQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/014F607F-B540-405F-8D71-1FB54C30201B.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jigwhtvlP7U/YAcf5pT6QmI/AAAAAAAAEGo/Gnk5y0dOfa0XcrBxXevxFU59Q9OYMguTQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/014F607F-B540-405F-8D71-1FB54C30201B.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KTG_uHYiNuQ/YAcf59yI5AI/AAAAAAAAEGs/xgnZ7Wj3iW0gbnst7Iguy15rrHcY0yATgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/D75517CB-E93C-4BB8-AA33-4CA89B6D93B2.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KTG_uHYiNuQ/YAcf59yI5AI/AAAAAAAAEGs/xgnZ7Wj3iW0gbnst7Iguy15rrHcY0yATgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/D75517CB-E93C-4BB8-AA33-4CA89B6D93B2.jpeg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Now that you’ve met Pearl, let’s talk sewing!!!! I have gotten fixated on thread catchers!!! It started with this one given to me some time ago by my friend, Debbie.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ygRhmxzT9Hw/YAcg5O8QnnI/AAAAAAAAEG8/o1Y3Z8PuhIccfGe7vALH3k2jMkDTauTPACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/767178C4-9AF7-4D8F-B2C5-933788C0E160.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ygRhmxzT9Hw/YAcg5O8QnnI/AAAAAAAAEG8/o1Y3Z8PuhIccfGe7vALH3k2jMkDTauTPACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/767178C4-9AF7-4D8F-B2C5-933788C0E160.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /><div>I absolutely love it, but I got sooooo frustrated, as it kept falling off where I set it. After several years, I added some shelf liner and “presto”! Not only does it not fall off, but it stays open much better as well!</div><div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QqCmeNbOF6E/YAchzZy8-xI/AAAAAAAAEHE/jxq0j0EVtusA6TtTbrkM5i6DsM0sceYAACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/C6E6AF76-37A1-4F9D-81BF-8650AB484838.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QqCmeNbOF6E/YAchzZy8-xI/AAAAAAAAEHE/jxq0j0EVtusA6TtTbrkM5i6DsM0sceYAACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/C6E6AF76-37A1-4F9D-81BF-8650AB484838.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So then I started looking at pin cushions I already had. I love pin cushions! But none of those had a thread catcher! And I loved this thread catcher!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This was the first one: I had made three, two to give away in December: one at the annual pin cushion giveaway during our Christmas Sewing Club at the Sewing Center of Cheyenne, one to give to my friend and neighbor, Bev, and one to keep.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1eR41gMCiy8/YAcmUUsioDI/AAAAAAAAEHQ/g_Yk49w6XMM7mVf37UNSU1eOQLYLVNWOQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1440/FE823DD6-8669-409C-89C5-A847C7D5E8EB.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1eR41gMCiy8/YAcmUUsioDI/AAAAAAAAEHQ/g_Yk49w6XMM7mVf37UNSU1eOQLYLVNWOQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/FE823DD6-8669-409C-89C5-A847C7D5E8EB.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The only problem was, I couldn’t add a thread catcher because it was too big to fill with weight, so it only had stuffing. But it was a good time to see what could be done. After adding some weight on the bottom and using Annie’s soft and Stable in the catcher for stability, I ended up with a huge, but pretty useful pin cushion/thread catcher. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pGPO6-jpvMc/YAcmy4AzbHI/AAAAAAAAEHY/w7CXT5lSwu4q7-e6k-s9SgEaQ5AQ6nWkQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/B4E53C9C-8064-4EC1-B661-D07FF59C613F.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pGPO6-jpvMc/YAcmy4AzbHI/AAAAAAAAEHY/w7CXT5lSwu4q7-e6k-s9SgEaQ5AQ6nWkQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/B4E53C9C-8064-4EC1-B661-D07FF59C613F.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div></div></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Bev loved hers too and calls it monkey because from the back she sees the face of a monkey (see third picture down)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ENnZWtMGSIA/YAcokSy2YWI/AAAAAAAAEHs/o6CuSTpTRy4s5HdLu0iHJdyFBiGa7rgCACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/84A4CEEA-9B86-40F0-BD53-EC738BBB334D.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ENnZWtMGSIA/YAcokSy2YWI/AAAAAAAAEHs/o6CuSTpTRy4s5HdLu0iHJdyFBiGa7rgCACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/84A4CEEA-9B86-40F0-BD53-EC738BBB334D.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6vnHf18Ba3k/YAcokDDiBMI/AAAAAAAAEHo/T6A-RMec80ci9CxNv5PzXCvgBDGPWUHsgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/137B9CD7-FBDA-435F-92FE-79D5475BB109.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6vnHf18Ba3k/YAcokDDiBMI/AAAAAAAAEHo/T6A-RMec80ci9CxNv5PzXCvgBDGPWUHsgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/137B9CD7-FBDA-435F-92FE-79D5475BB109.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ZNL-0Dnjzk/YAcoj84FRQI/AAAAAAAAEHk/D1aIrD-1qnUsOpL8ipcws6VJ9WQPRxShgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/FBD25500-BCC3-4B94-98DF-214B8268519C.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ZNL-0Dnjzk/YAcoj84FRQI/AAAAAAAAEHk/D1aIrD-1qnUsOpL8ipcws6VJ9WQPRxShgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/FBD25500-BCC3-4B94-98DF-214B8268519C.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For hers, Bev gave me a gorgeous pin cushion that reminded her of my Singer Featherweight. The inner was either the same size or cut at 10” so I could fold it over the outer fabric. But I needed to make one more and see what would happen if it was shorter. So I took a pin cushion I had made from a free pattern on Laundry Basket Quilts years earlier and cut it only 6” x 17”. Once the bottom was made, it was pretty shallow in depth, maybe 3 1/2 to 4”. But I like it. I don’t have to dig inside to pull out the threads and trash. This one was made completely from wool. I think I prefer felt but I do like the way it sits.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OOdeUWTUlAc/YAcqvtiI1hI/AAAAAAAAEII/_Zjz9ax27IM7xeUitnsjBEOsTEI1LzxCgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/DEEA9C12-9923-41B1-93CB-9C84C64FE0F4.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OOdeUWTUlAc/YAcqvtiI1hI/AAAAAAAAEII/_Zjz9ax27IM7xeUitnsjBEOsTEI1LzxCgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DEEA9C12-9923-41B1-93CB-9C84C64FE0F4.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So if you want a break from quilting or would just love to try a thread catcher, be inventive and give it a try! Finally, here are some of the other pin cushions I’ve received from our annual pin cushion giveaway at sewing club. I made the iron for my first giveaway. I always make sure I get to keep one. These ladies are creative! See you next time and have fun quilting!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsRirQagogs/YAcrtqloXkI/AAAAAAAAEIU/KK4Iy6MbFxAcZOR3VYvGN25yxE5v0KdMACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/BC8F8FCD-2D6A-4BEA-8239-01FCAB337A97.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsRirQagogs/YAcrtqloXkI/AAAAAAAAEIU/KK4Iy6MbFxAcZOR3VYvGN25yxE5v0KdMACNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/BC8F8FCD-2D6A-4BEA-8239-01FCAB337A97.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /></div><p></p></div>Quilts and Suchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02971681721314610097noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340074889026690818.post-85812211086226236152021-01-09T07:15:00.001-08:002021-01-09T07:15:20.841-08:002020 Christmas Wrap Up!<p>Christmas has passed and everything has been put away. Well....almost everything. My husband, John, and I love to sit in our sunroom in the morning with our coffee. It's still dark and we both love lights, so we left them up on the patio until the hail arrives, which will probably be about May or June. </p><p>This was the first time in many years that I was actually able to enjoy making homemade gifts and some treasures for my home. It was delightful! Credit goes to the pandemic! Yes, I'm thankful that there wasn't as much running around and things to do; I enjoyed the rest and staying more at home.</p><p>It started with embroidery. I really enjoy embroidery, and even more, combining it with free motion quilting. This year I got to do both: In the hoop, wallhangings, a table runner!. It was great! It started with some gifts for friends:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YhnL8RgXB4g/X_m-usoRkcI/AAAAAAAAED8/9FZQCanx9SkUcVMvXbwsgElsB2uemnP4ACNcBGAsYHQ/s1440/IMG_9976.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YhnL8RgXB4g/X_m-usoRkcI/AAAAAAAAED8/9FZQCanx9SkUcVMvXbwsgElsB2uemnP4ACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_9976.PNG" width="320" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sJgMUbjCSb0/X_m_EGA0KEI/AAAAAAAAEEI/DtWEYmrYTEMZcYh0pO4LGs1CNXQdI82egCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_1369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sJgMUbjCSb0/X_m_EGA0KEI/AAAAAAAAEEI/DtWEYmrYTEMZcYh0pO4LGs1CNXQdI82egCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_1369.JPG" /></a></div></div><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8ILuIhwhkK4/X_m-7FUGHfI/AAAAAAAAEEA/zb4lHRBzSL4JDI7r-R4wHO4enDXpCFiEACNcBGAsYHQ/s1920/fullsizeoutput_808.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8ILuIhwhkK4/X_m-7FUGHfI/AAAAAAAAEEA/zb4lHRBzSL4JDI7r-R4wHO4enDXpCFiEACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/fullsizeoutput_808.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Then a friend had drawn a specific design she had seen and wanted a wallhanging for her bedroom. It took some time, but I finally found what she wanted in an embroidery design. It really wasn't for Christmas; she had asked for it almost a year ago! But the time was right so it was time to "get it done".<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tvfaXFXqv0M/X_nAN3M9cVI/AAAAAAAAEEc/x8HR8lvHK0kFC5qno7bDbOHFWrB5UgkxQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1920/IMG_9983.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1080" height="324" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tvfaXFXqv0M/X_nAN3M9cVI/AAAAAAAAEEc/x8HR8lvHK0kFC5qno7bDbOHFWrB5UgkxQCNcBGAsYHQ/w182-h324/IMG_9983.JPG" width="182" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>That wallhanging got me motivated to do a special gift for a precious friend with whom I do a weekly Bible study. I absolutely love how this turned out. The design was from Embroidery Library. It looks fancy but was actually a pretty quick project.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5qCt79mpnKg/X_nAk2zKC8I/AAAAAAAAEEo/cAvdWVTeQpsOorSot4TdI1DxFlJ2HcezACNcBGAsYHQ/s1920/IMG_9982.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5qCt79mpnKg/X_nAk2zKC8I/AAAAAAAAEEo/cAvdWVTeQpsOorSot4TdI1DxFlJ2HcezACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_9982.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div>For our home, we needed some new placemats. OK, not "need", but it was time! These were from leftover jellyroll strips from a fall quilt I had made. They were more Christmasy so I had left them out of the quilt. I wanted something for every day use so they're not fancy. But! They were too plain with just strips so I worked with some alphabets and enlarging on the copier and added some appliqué. The finish is kind of country and nice.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fFAV2wS6wbg/X_nBG2VcvOI/AAAAAAAAEE0/RYrL-ilc3lwrfAIIVIZ5gWQR3UXTGqgNwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1440/fullsizeoutput_80a.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fFAV2wS6wbg/X_nBG2VcvOI/AAAAAAAAEE0/RYrL-ilc3lwrfAIIVIZ5gWQR3UXTGqgNwCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/fullsizeoutput_80a.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>After seeing something a friend was doing, the Missouri Star Quilt Company half-hexi template came out of hiding for a few more placemats. Most of all I enjoyed having my son home from law school. This will be his final semester and I don't know what will happen then, so I'm enjoying every moment! Let's look forward to this year and the opportunities that will come to encourage each other!</div>Quilts and Suchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02971681721314610097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340074889026690818.post-77641282558439797952021-01-07T10:47:00.004-08:002021-01-07T10:47:54.971-08:00The Jelly Roll Race Free Motion Quilting Quilt Along!<p>The response to a Jelly Roll Race Quilt challenge on my Facebook Page and YouTube was great so we are going to do it! First let’s get our quilts completed and sandwiched, before the first free motion post next Wednesday, the 13th. I still prefer to spray baste my quilts, but this is an easy one to pin baste since we are quilting by rows. Longarmers will have a great time joining in on this one as well!</p><p>Starting next Wednesday, I’ll go through a modified version of my Quilting Calisthenics with designs you can use on your Jelly Roll Race quilt, once you doodle them, of course. I’ll also include additional designs for those with more control or experience with free motion.</p><p>Here are links to three Jelly Roll Race Quilts on YouTube by Missouri Star Quilt Company but you are welcome to use any pattern or process you like. </p><p>1. Making a Jelly Roll Race with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star: https://youtu.be/2bEJLnaZQOU</p><p>2. Jelly Roll Race II: https://youtu.be/9w9UOFj0CSo</p><p>3. Jelly Roll Race 3.0: https://youtu.be/BY4tEEpyhX4</p><p>I used a roll called Sturbridge by Kathy Schmidt. What was I thinking!?!?!? There’s no color!!! Oh well, I’m up for a challenge and will complete the Jelly Roll Race II using squares of teal thrown in to help wake it up. Thanks, Linda, for the color help!</p><p>So how about some working photos! First, to get my fabric ready!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bo3jCQ99K5k/X_auEugBU3I/AAAAAAAAECo/9r7T93yDFzwVzrD4sMWZf-6Cy8POZtkfgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/C3D33020-2970-4BAB-A30E-4705D7D35E17.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bo3jCQ99K5k/X_auEugBU3I/AAAAAAAAECo/9r7T93yDFzwVzrD4sMWZf-6Cy8POZtkfgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/C3D33020-2970-4BAB-A30E-4705D7D35E17.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9z5lGTrUdA/X_auEd68V3I/AAAAAAAAECk/1UAhtlpKZeM6ORHrM-MRRVEjcJoC0kzbQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/5BEAA386-379A-426B-B128-E877F7C067AE.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9z5lGTrUdA/X_auEd68V3I/AAAAAAAAECk/1UAhtlpKZeM6ORHrM-MRRVEjcJoC0kzbQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/5BEAA386-379A-426B-B128-E877F7C067AE.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>Don’t forget to get a fresh needle, put your 1/4” foot on, fill up some bobbins and clean up before starting! But after taking some time to assess things, I’ve decided it would be a good thing to major on my blog and YouTube with Facebook being a tool to link individuals to those sites. </p><p style="text-align: left;">So look for the stories on the quilts I’m doing; some will link to Facebook and YouTube posts but many will not. </p><p style="text-align: left;">This quilt is something I will be combining with both Facebook AND YouTube and it’s a fantastically fun quilt!</p><p style="text-align: left;">Have you learned the basics of free motion but are afraid to do your designs on a quilt? Here’s a fun way to get over the fear.</p><p style="text-align: left;">I looked up Jelly Rolly Race quilts on YouTube and found several tutorials on how to complete one. I picked one from Missouri Star Quilt Company and then pulled out one of their many jelly rolls I had on hand from their Daily Specials. The one I chose was a Stonehenge from Northcott fabric. Here’s what I ended up with.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NU0_hD430iU/X_DN5lpF1aI/AAAAAAAAD9U/ucbKUyGEWUsD-VlLFVvqNNTrFlxVVcNYQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/6A11E626-643A-48CB-810C-9647500E0278.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NU0_hD430iU/X_DN5lpF1aI/AAAAAAAAD9U/ucbKUyGEWUsD-VlLFVvqNNTrFlxVVcNYQCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/6A11E626-643A-48CB-810C-9647500E0278.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: left;">Once it was put together and sandwiched, I started in the center row of the quilt so there wasn’t too much drag and picked a different beginning quilting design for each row. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Jayne shared with me how much she loves doing hand work. So, I said, the appliqué on this quilt IS done my machine, right? Oh no, was the response, I do that all by hand. By hand? It's almost perfect?!?! Although this quilt was a kit purchased from Keepsake Quilting, I have never seen such beautiful handwork. It is stunningly beautiful!! I was very humbled and scared stiff at the thought of being responsible for the quilting. But Jayne is actually a very humble woman and I loved just visiting with her. <br />
<br />
Our agreement was not to rush, but to finish the quilt with primarily feathers and pebbles. She brought the bottom layer of batting and I added a layer of Quilter's Dream wool. After debating, it was decided to use Superior Threads Bottom Line in both the top and bobbin threads.<br />
<br />
After sandwiching the quilt, the first step was to stitch in the ditch of the major blocks. Then....edge stitch around every single pice of appliqué. Every single piece. Uhhhhhh, every single piece!!!! Wow!!!! <br />
<br />
Now I could begin the background stitching, flowing from block to block. Here's what we ended up with. Every block spoke for itself so although there are feathers and pebbles throughout, every block is quilted differently.<br />

The half square triangles were stitched with a 1/4" curve on each of the sides of the cream fabric. And for the outer border? Feathers most definitely!!! Rather than just connected feathers all around the quilt, I started at both the top and bottom and took them around to meet at the sides of the quilt. </div>

It is!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F7WdACjVgeg/WodThFrHjuI/AAAAAAAADZY/tAe-qsNQq0kjg3HYxadzWgs9gjEnvkChACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7fe.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1134" data-original-width="1600" height="282" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F7WdACjVgeg/WodThFrHjuI/AAAAAAAADZY/tAe-qsNQq0kjg3HYxadzWgs9gjEnvkChACLcBGAs/s400/fullsizeoutput_7fe.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isn't it gorgeous? This is the second Curvy Log Cabin I have quilted and it's amazing how different the quilt top is depending upon the artist. The first I did was primarily purple and white. What a "wow" quilt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oda7kLNJNkE/WodUM49R_JI/AAAAAAAADZg/ERUzUUoAynwMuZnsUFt4f_EaG_N2YA32gCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oda7kLNJNkE/WodUM49R_JI/AAAAAAAADZg/ERUzUUoAynwMuZnsUFt4f_EaG_N2YA32gCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_4905.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bright and Bold was quilted completely different. We started out with Peg's own batting, Warm and Natural. Then we picked out some wild thread that blended with the quilt. Is this not awesome?!?! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uow4F9Par0k/WodY-_79f0I/AAAAAAAADao/uD60_Tc6CrMiACybRuTlqqJ-70I5aTOFwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_6670.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uow4F9Par0k/WodY-_79f0I/AAAAAAAADao/uD60_Tc6CrMiACybRuTlqqJ-70I5aTOFwCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_6670.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Actually, the threads blended in beautifully. They are both Isacord, 40 weight tri-lobal polyester threads. They went beautifully with this quilt. We used the green in the main body and orange in the border. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rather than quilting each section of the pinwheel design, we decided upon an easier allover design. In this case the quilter, Peg, chose curls as she loves them. So the main body has curls throughout and it turned out beautifully!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHxxaKNDzOU/WodVEK4lY6I/AAAAAAAADZo/XWQxX-6UAiAk6HtSXs-PM4FpafYr-tGrQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_6654%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHxxaKNDzOU/WodVEK4lY6I/AAAAAAAADZo/XWQxX-6UAiAk6HtSXs-PM4FpafYr-tGrQCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_6654%2B2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Peg left the rest of the quilt up to me. I decided to stitch in the ditch around the inner border and then had some fun with rulers on the outer. I had pushed this design into the back of my memory but it was brought to the forefront again when I perused part of a ruler work class recently done by Patsy Thompson. I tweeked it to fit this quilt and.......oooooooo la la! Love it! After marking the design, I used my trusty Line Tamer Ruler to stitch it all out. </div>

Its actual title by the artist is <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: blue; font-size: large;"><b>Fairies in the Dutch Iris</b></span></span>. It is approximately 29" square and won first place in the art quilt division as well as the Judges Choice Reserve Best of Show award at the Cheyenne Heritage Quilt Show this past August, 2017. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Wfomsf2Q6A/WnIdxacFaYI/AAAAAAAADX0/Oje3QQJAWIMPE7BPruE5pzcAfh1qfcdFQCLcBGAs/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Wfomsf2Q6A/WnIdxacFaYI/AAAAAAAADX0/Oje3QQJAWIMPE7BPruE5pzcAfh1qfcdFQCLcBGAs/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilt I will focus on here is approximately 31" x 34" and I call it <span style="color: #e06666; font-size: large;"><b>Fairy Hidden in the Poppies and Daisies</b></span>! This quilt was planned several years ago as a quilted wall hanging birthday gift for the daughter of the Artist. Although I would have loved to go all out on the quilting, Rose just wanted this to be a nice wall hanging and memory for her daughter. Do you know how hard it is to reign in your quilting??!!???!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IWDgURt9UyY/WnIflxll8BI/AAAAAAAADYA/nHgPEEvwBl0uOVqq2RGVKDkl_y_ChtIcgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IWDgURt9UyY/WnIflxll8BI/AAAAAAAADYA/nHgPEEvwBl0uOVqq2RGVKDkl_y_ChtIcgCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0706.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I do love this! Rose wanted to keep it simple so she only wanted to include some small little daisies that spread into the borders and a few butterflies. She was not concerned that this quilt be heavily quilted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to do some really special butterflies so before sandwiching the quilt, I found a couple of lovely ones on pinterest that had no user protection and printed them out. The printed designs were placed on my lightbox, followed by the quilt top, and I drew the designs with a blue line marker. It was perfect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top was then sandwiched with Hobbs Tuscany 80/20 cotton wool. First, each border area was stitched in the ditch. Then I stitched around every portion of the appliqué, inner and out. This secured it to the sandwich and gave a nice finish. Now it was time for the butterflies and daisies. This was great but I didn't feel like there was enough quilting. After speaking with Rose, it was decided to add some poppies, making them part of the rest of the grouping. GREAT! I had already sandwiched the quilt and I'M NOT AN ARTIST! So I spent quite a bit of time on pinterest trying to find the easiest rendering of a poppy and a poppy leaf. It was too late to use the light box! After some practicing, here's what I came up with:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q48fyL-4-s/WnIhoLUVXzI/AAAAAAAADYM/bADN1skkK2syTOyp1s2Y4P-aMX5eWzCLACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0703.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q48fyL-4-s/WnIhoLUVXzI/AAAAAAAADYM/bADN1skkK2syTOyp1s2Y4P-aMX5eWzCLACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0703.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, we left the the flying geese border pretty empty other than just stitching in the ditch around each block. The outer border added swirls and some designs from the quilt itself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ObQ345eEZm8/WnIky7jIJlI/AAAAAAAADYY/DQe9b8rm7KkEQ-DaDtiRrYE2hQ4xpx9sQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ObQ345eEZm8/WnIky7jIJlI/AAAAAAAADYY/DQe9b8rm7KkEQ-DaDtiRrYE2hQ4xpx9sQCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0701.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Simple and sweet but I think it turned out lovely! </span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IWDgURt9UyY/WnIflxll8BI/AAAAAAAADYE/6S1UqobjJV4KWJ91lz-8D_hPFzSEBKkRACEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_0706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IWDgURt9UyY/WnIflxll8BI/AAAAAAAADYE/6S1UqobjJV4KWJ91lz-8D_hPFzSEBKkRACEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_0706.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't seem to add videos on my blog but I did put one for doing the poppy on my business Facebook page. <b><span style="font-size: large;">You can find me on Facebook at:</span></b></div>

Well, not literally, but I imagine my eyes and face showed the enthusiasm within. I LOVE PURPLE!!!!! And this is a gorgeous quilt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UD2fpoCt1_Y/WmermZg6JdI/AAAAAAAADWk/XGKvMZs_omwqdZAWUdWIJb0HkVAThM7nACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7f8.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1058" data-original-width="1600" height="263" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UD2fpoCt1_Y/WmermZg6JdI/AAAAAAAADWk/XGKvMZs_omwqdZAWUdWIJb0HkVAThM7nACLcBGAs/s400/fullsizeoutput_7f8.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was no doubt that this quilt would lend itself beautifully to feathers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first thing I did was to pull out a dry erase marker and cover a portion of the quilt with my plexiglass. Since the corner areas are different than the main portion of the quit, I decided to cover the corner and a repeated block. It just wasn't clicking. I like the drawing within the block, but not the corner flower nor sashings. I needed to brainstorm just a bit more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mY3BXEvFNoU/WmesJ917IKI/AAAAAAAADWs/2nNd1NA3HawHIWJL9lpGjU_ZWrzqN0SIgCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7fa.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1272" data-original-width="1600" height="254" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mY3BXEvFNoU/WmesJ917IKI/AAAAAAAADWs/2nNd1NA3HawHIWJL9lpGjU_ZWrzqN0SIgCLcBGAs/s320/fullsizeoutput_7fa.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to take a photo of the quilt and put the whole photo on the drawing program on my iPad. I use Procrete with an I-pencil and can blow up portions of the photo to draw in. This is what I sent Cathy next, with several options for the sashing. Some of the feathering is a bit wobbly due to using the I-pencil but all I wanted was a quilting plan.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vr0AP90HcS8/WmetLLvtUJI/AAAAAAAADW4/gJZH7rdCeLsbw5S0MAVRm62uDi8WPiWsQCLcBGAs/s1600/Image%2B1-22-18%2Bat%2B9.37%2BPM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vr0AP90HcS8/WmetLLvtUJI/AAAAAAAADW4/gJZH7rdCeLsbw5S0MAVRm62uDi8WPiWsQCLcBGAs/s400/Image%2B1-22-18%2Bat%2B9.37%2BPM.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cathy was thrilled; she chose ribbon candy in the sashing except for the two small pieces by the feathered heart. She stuck with the little hearts in the sashing there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used my favorite ruler from the Quilted Pineapple to come up with the long curves, and two different threads: a deep purple Isacord and a lavender Floriani. Both are tri-lobal polyester threads and are great to bring the desired sheen to the quilt while maintaining strength in the fibers. We also used 80/20 cotton/wool batting from Hobbs Tuscany Heirloom. This would give the quilt a little "poof" in the quilting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FIxzRiG2hHE/WmewAakTFsI/AAAAAAAADXQ/IrhxqhNUmls_ByFlLEOKZi7c-D6LpPdugCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_6204.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FIxzRiG2hHE/WmewAakTFsI/AAAAAAAADXQ/IrhxqhNUmls_ByFlLEOKZi7c-D6LpPdugCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_6204.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First, we stitched in the ditches of the main block areas, the sashing and the borders. Then, it was time for the fun using the plan Cathy accepted. Here is a view of parts of the quilting completed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This quilt is beautiful; the piecing is fantastic. Deciding what to quilt in the corner area was the most difficult of the quilting but Cathy loves the hearts. I love how it turned out! <br />

It is gorgeous and I wanted to do it justice!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hH6hw786ujc/WfNXOxqvO7I/AAAAAAAADSc/MVMVYGzfX9om0250aVWKODfLFN954x6BQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_5474.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hH6hw786ujc/WfNXOxqvO7I/AAAAAAAADSc/MVMVYGzfX9om0250aVWKODfLFN954x6BQCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_5474.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think it turned out lovely but it all started with Linda's ideas, plexiglass and a dry erase marker. This is the process I follow almost every time a quilt comes in: draw!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Many times it's just a brainstorming process and in this case we simplified the quilting in the blocks in the bottom photo substantially.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilting was done with 50 weight Aurifil thread and Hobbs Tuscany 80/20 Cotton/Wool batting. The main thrust of the quilting was feathers and beautiful ruler work with Linda Hrcka's rulers from The Quilted Pineapple. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p_ouqCKnkQQ/WdvW_VwRoqI/AAAAAAAADQY/zWZ5giD4iVUpOwhh9S9omuce1UhN0Ok7QCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0672%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="960" height="180" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p_ouqCKnkQQ/WdvW_VwRoqI/AAAAAAAADQY/zWZ5giD4iVUpOwhh9S9omuce1UhN0Ok7QCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_0672%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm pretty sure this is a very sheer lamé fabric that was purchased at a garage sale thinking it could be used for a whole cloth quilt. The first question was what kind of needle to use. So I resourced my awesome Bernina Q20 Facebook group. It was suggested that I back, or stabilize, the fabric and use a ballpoint needle and give it a try. After several months, I finally remembered to pick up a pack of needles while at the sewing store. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First up, a test on a small piece of silver lamé with a sweet little feather:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-No0Ipe2IzkM/WdvX7sXE82I/AAAAAAAADQg/2yeF7aYBdB0N9JYcb8y9ByUbW8CBzCm-gCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0654%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-No0Ipe2IzkM/WdvX7sXE82I/AAAAAAAADQg/2yeF7aYBdB0N9JYcb8y9ByUbW8CBzCm-gCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0654%2B4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was so exciting working with something new, that I completely forgot to stabilize the fabric but I was thrilled with the results, using two layers of batting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So next, a whole cloth quilt on a beautiful piece of light rose colored lamé:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xvZtRa7Wodg/WdvYbx40ARI/AAAAAAAADQs/CkrlzxzIABQWehPqp8Oi9vdPWcuoehfqQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0653%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" height="150" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xvZtRa7Wodg/WdvYbx40ARI/AAAAAAAADQs/CkrlzxzIABQWehPqp8Oi9vdPWcuoehfqQCLcBGAs/s200/IMG_0653%2B4.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wasn't too worried about this being perfectly symmetrical but I did locate and market the horizontal, vertical and diagonal points of the cut fabric and began working from there. Here is the resulting center section:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PLvgVKoaI5M/WdvaPZsmvxI/AAAAAAAADRI/K6FS_58-60kappQdSPzxLZxDp70jHqM2ACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7f2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1450" data-original-width="1507" height="307" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PLvgVKoaI5M/WdvaPZsmvxI/AAAAAAAADRI/K6FS_58-60kappQdSPzxLZxDp70jHqM2ACLcBGAs/s320/fullsizeoutput_7f2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That center section was completed primarily using these two rulers/templates from Linda Hrcka with The Quilted Pineapple and some gorgeous Floriani thread:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0TN6tpR5Mig/WdvbOoBNd0I/AAAAAAAADRU/__79VVMJNrIK-kPdu390en_0_MSZMsMsACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="150" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0TN6tpR5Mig/WdvbOoBNd0I/AAAAAAAADRU/__79VVMJNrIK-kPdu390en_0_MSZMsMsACLcBGAs/s200/IMG_0674.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not knowing exactly where it would lead, I ended up with this circular design:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N_02HWhkwZA/WdvbtFFPOOI/AAAAAAAADRY/4B_vjXxPzOs1_zY-sT014_uwxW88TLkHgCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7f3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1577" data-original-width="1600" height="315" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N_02HWhkwZA/WdvbtFFPOOI/AAAAAAAADRY/4B_vjXxPzOs1_zY-sT014_uwxW88TLkHgCLcBGAs/s320/fullsizeoutput_7f3.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was still quite a bit of unquilted fabric so the circle was squared off with scribbles in the squares around the design and a grid was added behind the main design using my Line Tamer Ruler. from Four Paws Quilting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FjBlxgObzQ4/WdvgtDOUcWI/AAAAAAAADRo/jD_cK0YnrJQGBaIwDbBXuXScl2nFRWMbACLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7f4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="496" data-original-width="1600" height="99" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FjBlxgObzQ4/WdvgtDOUcWI/AAAAAAAADRo/jD_cK0YnrJQGBaIwDbBXuXScl2nFRWMbACLcBGAs/s320/fullsizeoutput_7f4.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span id="goog_1384240264"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, because it still looked a little empty, I added a little floral motif in each corner area using the grid, and echo'd it. A small crystal was added in the project center and in the center of each of the four floral designs. It was then bound with a teal colored piece of Cherrywood fabric. The result? Feathers on Rose-Colored Lamé:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iqJdPQgR9EY/WdvZYm1KjqI/AAAAAAAADRE/BVKzhjgadvAvBvtBL_kbzJmUKN0C4HmYQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_0665%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iqJdPQgR9EY/WdvZYm1KjqI/AAAAAAAADRE/BVKzhjgadvAvBvtBL_kbzJmUKN0C4HmYQCEwYBhgL/s400/IMG_0665%2B4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the back:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VfC0ihKsYmg/WdvZWCtwTqI/AAAAAAAADRE/uonv4la3o4kSqWqvVpk_o_uZkFwH32AEACEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_0663%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VfC0ihKsYmg/WdvZWCtwTqI/AAAAAAAADRE/uonv4la3o4kSqWqvVpk_o_uZkFwH32AEACEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_0663%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This experiment with Lamé with fun and very easy. I had no problems stitching with it, even with that heavy scribbling. So if you are adventurous, try a piece of Lamé!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great quilty week and try something new!!!</div>

Summer has been crazy with moving, hail, teaching and all the normal busy-ness that comes with this glorious time of year. Quilting has for the most part been put on the back burner. However, I HAVE finished this fat quarter-size wall hanging for a super special friend who asked for a whole cloth quilt for her birthday. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MftuAuPULZA/WXtajsVsHxI/AAAAAAAADOM/X0IQcjNNawIiKGn-gP520N1Vn0XkYl4fQCLcBGAs/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7f0.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1314" data-original-width="1600" height="327" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MftuAuPULZA/WXtajsVsHxI/AAAAAAAADOM/X0IQcjNNawIiKGn-gP520N1Vn0XkYl4fQCLcBGAs/s400/fullsizeoutput_7f0.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The fabric is iridescent Dupioni Silk. I used a gorgeous floriani thread in Fuscia for the main design and 100 weight Micro Quilter from Superior Threads for the background quilting. It was sandwiched with two layers of Hobbs Tuscany Cotton/Wool. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My goal in putting this together was a lovely focal point surrounded by feathers. Since my friend loves flowers, this rose was perfect. I think the grid work really brings out the flower and love how this turned out. Smaller whole cloth quilts can provide great satisfaction quite quickly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's glad to be back. I'll be showing photos of my new studio soon. I'm not used to such a large space. Have a super quilty weekend and check out the blogs on my sidebar!.</div>

<br />
In teaching over the past several years, questions have often risen regarding the necessity for quality batting and how two layers of batting affected the appearance of a quilt.<br />
<br />
My hope is that you will find the following comparison quite interesting.<br />
<br />
<u><b>First sample </b></u><br />
Batting - one layer of "I don't know what" given to me by the dealer<br />
Thread - 50 weight Aurifil in a variegated color throughout<br />
Embellishment to basic design - none<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i0N0QKhsWV8/WR-g2-g4AKI/AAAAAAAADME/Q2ZX7KwRcbEtp71D3kuZvhJ2d50e-fzIACLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i0N0QKhsWV8/WR-g2-g4AKI/AAAAAAAADME/Q2ZX7KwRcbEtp71D3kuZvhJ2d50e-fzIACLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><u>Second sample </u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Batting - two layers of 50/50 cotton/bamboo</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thread - Isacord (40 weight) in purple, pink and lime green</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Embelishment: feathers in scallops </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YaNrhyHKlFI/WR-hveyWgZI/AAAAAAAADMM/AQRuo_wak4o0X6NLT4zAjaSDtA29e0q9wCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YaNrhyHKlFI/WR-hveyWgZI/AAAAAAAADMM/AQRuo_wak4o0X6NLT4zAjaSDtA29e0q9wCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Third Sample<br />
Batting - two layers of Hobbs 80/20 cotton/wool<br />
Thread - So Fine (50 weight) by Superior Threads in Lavender, Turquoise and Rose AND 60 weight<br />
Bottom Line by Superior Threads<br />
Embellishment: Feathers in scallops, lines in flower & background squiggles in crosshatching and<br />
border<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wsXR7x_eD0Y/WR-jXEOVzyI/AAAAAAAADMY/NarSg_JluYENF6It2roJkxtunx2wrYeswCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wsXR7x_eD0Y/WR-jXEOVzyI/AAAAAAAADMY/NarSg_JluYENF6It2roJkxtunx2wrYeswCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, two of these projects have not been finished with binding and as beginning projects, they were not intended to include the additional and more difficult quilting. However, it is still amazing the difference between the three samples.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sample number one has no depth to it and the use of a beautiful variegated thread is somewhat wasted as nothing really stands out. (Sorry, at the last minute I saw a couple of "blue line" marks on this)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sample number two had a little depth but even with simple feathers, just didn't have any special character. It was like looking at a flat map.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sample number three, at least to me, had so much more depth and character with the extra quilting in the background of the cross hatch. The flower stands out a bit more too with stitching just one half of each petal. Even the border has just a bit more character with the background stitching. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So although we can complain when something is "over quilted", we can also see here how a lack of quilting can affect a project as well as the batting used. It can take a scientist to get just the right balance of batting, thread and stitching!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a photo of the two double batted projects side by side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_KGYUMiplmo/WR-l39mKaeI/AAAAAAAADMk/8CNrQ-5AC_YsK8HI8j7dkkFwPDj2dDkmACLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="183" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_KGYUMiplmo/WR-l39mKaeI/AAAAAAAADMk/8CNrQ-5AC_YsK8HI8j7dkkFwPDj2dDkmACLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And a full view of all three side by side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYRjqIUlrsY/WR-mKEv6fQI/AAAAAAAADMo/8gznJ5QMdGwer5ZDgKQDdMCouzJMo4cBQCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="122" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYRjqIUlrsY/WR-mKEv6fQI/AAAAAAAADMo/8gznJ5QMdGwer5ZDgKQDdMCouzJMo4cBQCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, really no conclusions, just some pretty amazing observations. I hope this helps you in your quilting! Have a super quilty weekend!</div>

What an incredible customer quilt! I asked Rose how many hours she estimated she spent on all the handwork in this wall hanging. Somewheres around 400! Can you imagine? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vYF-uhbLXd0/WQv6y5BdpVI/AAAAAAAADKo/6_TgllnqWYcJEuLkLNz20tXtjj4tVOL_gCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vYF-uhbLXd0/WQv6y5BdpVI/AAAAAAAADKo/6_TgllnqWYcJEuLkLNz20tXtjj4tVOL_gCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This little Fairy quilt is an original design and done all by hand other than adding the borders. The responsibility for quilting a project of this caliber was truly incredible. <br />
<br />
- Quilt size: approximately 29" square<br />
- Batting: Hobbs 80/20 cotton wool (the customer used one layer behind the center medallion only, <br />
when completing the handwork. I used one layer to cover the entire quilt.)<br />
- Thread: Superior Threads 100 weight Microquilter<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SdkyaGcT0iU/WQv6b-C0z0I/AAAAAAAADKc/5ol7Sc4mBoYac2zSZ-nTuBq_3GiNS-AmgCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SdkyaGcT0iU/WQv6b-C0z0I/AAAAAAAADKc/5ol7Sc4mBoYac2zSZ-nTuBq_3GiNS-AmgCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
So where do we start? First I stitched around all of the handwork as if it were appliqué. Then I stitched in the ditched around each section: the medallion and each border. Finally, it's time to start the good stuff! The flowers around the bottom represent periwinkles, so we decided to continue the flowers in the bottom and up slightly on both sides. The also went just slightly onto the dark blue border.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6wCWWgaF6uE/WQv66d7dxHI/AAAAAAAADK0/VaDD7rfd0fk2DK4oqcjHbfaxEeXa4BDWwCLcB/s1600/IMG_0537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6wCWWgaF6uE/WQv66d7dxHI/AAAAAAAADK0/VaDD7rfd0fk2DK4oqcjHbfaxEeXa4BDWwCLcB/s400/IMG_0537.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Up at the top we added a few butterflies and then several dense quilting designs. The idea was to create a complete fairyland.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ASxFkmvClbw/WQv6oKD_MSI/AAAAAAAADKk/U0DMZHv-MT8nTBgFdqB6idltRtx1pK63gCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ASxFkmvClbw/WQv6oKD_MSI/AAAAAAAADKk/U0DMZHv-MT8nTBgFdqB6idltRtx1pK63gCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--ucjiViD6OY/WQv6mzDmgqI/AAAAAAAADKg/VIF99ei1WeAzHj3BLTHdEC8GabcOLnsSwCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--ucjiViD6OY/WQv6mzDmgqI/AAAAAAAADKg/VIF99ei1WeAzHj3BLTHdEC8GabcOLnsSwCLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's very hard to see but feathers were used in the dark blue border and worked around the periwinkles that extended into the border and the outside border was completed with a lattice grid design. They are much each to see from the back side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P06kPEMu1Tw/WQv64kVuZ5I/AAAAAAAADKw/TQevV8D0kM4OBXThUQuCMUfNFUE9F3OpACLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P06kPEMu1Tw/WQv64kVuZ5I/AAAAAAAADKw/TQevV8D0kM4OBXThUQuCMUfNFUE9F3OpACLcB/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilting on this quilt took about 13 hours in total but it is well worth it. Rose was thrilled with the finish and so was I.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Yx9TuydMWk/WQwF-4mrDlI/AAAAAAAADLQ/G89Od9RaxL0AetuKxQbCOgzN014oo2PTgCLcB/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7ef.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Yx9TuydMWk/WQwF-4mrDlI/AAAAAAAADLQ/G89Od9RaxL0AetuKxQbCOgzN014oo2PTgCLcB/s400/fullsizeoutput_7ef.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>

Quilts and Suchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02971681721314610097noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340074889026690818.post-7708526840962462972017-04-14T09:24:00.001-07:002017-04-14T09:24:30.179-07:00Rocky Mountain Elk!I don't know if this panel was really taken from the Rocky Mountains but it just feels like it!! Regardless, this is a gorgeous customer quilt that required a little more than the flowery beauty I love. The photo was taken in our wonderful Wyoming wind so the borders look a little wonky but we had a hard time keeping the quilt flat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c9scKz6ABhM/WPDx8gPtG1I/AAAAAAAADIw/GIxJHAruxO4wg-w6dMwBKIDlcE2uJg9qgCLcB/s1600/F0F1276C-A572-4B7F-9370-AF776CE6B326-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c9scKz6ABhM/WPDx8gPtG1I/AAAAAAAADIw/GIxJHAruxO4wg-w6dMwBKIDlcE2uJg9qgCLcB/s640/F0F1276C-A572-4B7F-9370-AF776CE6B326-1.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilting started in the panel itself. The goal was to create dimension and we did that on the double batting with Superior Threads 60 weight Bottom Line and as well as a little 100 weight Microquilter. Not everything was quilted, just the elk, some trees, a little in the mountains, a few leaves, and the small spruce tree. Just enough for dimension.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6-ngJYBMczw/WPD2Kt_TnHI/AAAAAAAADJI/C7Lm2Q79KJA-dhiECUtiOnPWvd_0-_SKgCLcB/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7ed.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6-ngJYBMczw/WPD2Kt_TnHI/AAAAAAAADJI/C7Lm2Q79KJA-dhiECUtiOnPWvd_0-_SKgCLcB/s640/fullsizeoutput_7ed.jpeg" width="529" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we moved to the three borders and stitched in the ditch of each one but using the finer weight Microquilter. Next came the animal shots above and below the elk. These were stitched in the ditch in the sashing area. Rather than quilting on the blocks, the green sashing was quilted on a grid using an Aurifil 50 weight thread in hunter green. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8N96EB6cKP0/WPD0RTQbrCI/AAAAAAAADI0/4JOtnnwE8DIBF1B1TuNSJzwO-epjP6NwwCLcB/s1600/521F9D59-EF5A-49A8-9592-14B7216EF20F.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8N96EB6cKP0/WPD0RTQbrCI/AAAAAAAADI0/4JOtnnwE8DIBF1B1TuNSJzwO-epjP6NwwCLcB/s640/521F9D59-EF5A-49A8-9592-14B7216EF20F.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UdFQvE1cy5o/WPD0R2PmE6I/AAAAAAAADI4/kWgiEiG6IaARuG7XbKvHIekNaE8_00TjgCLcB/s1600/CAE20E48-FCFC-4900-A67D-77A9667ADC6E-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UdFQvE1cy5o/WPD0R2PmE6I/AAAAAAAADI4/kWgiEiG6IaARuG7XbKvHIekNaE8_00TjgCLcB/s400/CAE20E48-FCFC-4900-A67D-77A9667ADC6E-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On to the outside border. The quilting needed to be kept simple on the print but yet worth doing. So we added a little more dimension and texture with a diamond effect using an Aurifil 50 weight thread in brown. I really like how this turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2yLmdNn-Vc/WPD1FnoaVFI/AAAAAAAADI8/YqvPprt4JBw2Jm92vPGZq0gdiwFPFDd6QCLcB/s1600/1827C17F-B58F-4217-A620-EBC1B78025DB-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2yLmdNn-Vc/WPD1FnoaVFI/AAAAAAAADI8/YqvPprt4JBw2Jm92vPGZq0gdiwFPFDd6QCLcB/s640/1827C17F-B58F-4217-A620-EBC1B78025DB-1.jpg" width="350" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point the quilting appeared very sophisticated so we kept with that and just echo quilted twice inside the bear claw corner stone blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jJyN3ow_3MI/WNVElKTfK6I/AAAAAAAADGo/yuQq4sppWwo-DU5zw-GIjMuiM7EihoUPgCLcB/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7e2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jJyN3ow_3MI/WNVElKTfK6I/AAAAAAAADGo/yuQq4sppWwo-DU5zw-GIjMuiM7EihoUPgCLcB/s640/fullsizeoutput_7e2.jpeg" width="508" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It may technically be spring but here in Wyoming we are having a bit of snow so my embroidery snowmen are perfect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whimsical! Whimsical snowmen! With hearts and birds! Love it! All of the embroidered blocks were found on line at emblibrary.com. Aren't they great?! Once I figured out how many great designs I could find that I loved, I pulled out graph paper and first determined the size of the finished quilt and what part of that would be the inner panel. I decided upon a 4" grid so the finished embroidery blocks would be 8" and the flannel squares finished at 4". Then I marked on the graph paper where to put the snowmen and the center heart block and placed the squares around the embroidery. That was my pattern! Aren't these guys incredibly cute?? They were stitched on my Bernina 770.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

So now the quilting! This is our new second quilt for the top of our bed during winter; it's designed for warmth and snuggling. So I used up the rest of my bamboo batting using just one layer along with a fun variegated 50 weight Aurifil thread for the quilting. The first step was to stitch around the snowman blocks and around the larger elements in the blocks as though they were appliqué. This quilt will be utilitarian and everything laid flat so I broke the rules and did not stitch around all the 4" blocks. Now! Let's just pull everything out of the hat that says winter, combine it with simple loops and go with it!</div>

<span style="color: #e06666; font-size: large;"><b>KITTY KAT QUILT</b></span></div>
<br />
This has got to be one of the cutest quilts I have done for a customer and I am not a cat fan! But it's soooo cute!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lrsrvkLrm_w/WMHR3HIcw3I/AAAAAAAADFE/U6hVgiRxJSInnA_30z5HcL5vApJKrD1YgCLcB/s1600/IMG_4948.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lrsrvkLrm_w/WMHR3HIcw3I/AAAAAAAADFE/U6hVgiRxJSInnA_30z5HcL5vApJKrD1YgCLcB/s400/IMG_4948.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">This adorable quilt measures approximately 58.5" x 70" and was completed by the same customer who brought me the Purple Curvy Log Cabin quilt. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Frances does awesome quilts and makes my job so much easier in that she always has an idea for each quilt she brings me. This time she wanted paw prints in the center section and cat silhouettes in the open border areas. No other quilting in the border but to outline the appliqué. And........she wanted all the quilting in black. She winced when she made the announcement to me and gave me that quizzical look. Wow! Talk about pressure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, on to Pinterest again for cat templates. That was pretty easy. What took time was getting each one, I used four, to approximately the right size for the border area. I was shooting for about 5 - 5 1/2" tall. Next was to remember to use my lightbox and mark the designs on the quilt PRIOR to sandwiching. Yes! Got it done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So here's the paw prints in the center that I mixed in with large meandering, something I don't often do but it looked good in this case. We ended up using Aurifil 50 weight thread in black in both the top and bobbin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l9H5ZIqZwpE/WMHTg8iiOdI/AAAAAAAADFQ/f78mnhea8j0XTgQjhUERQvYhTdzXT6aEQCLcB/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7da.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l9H5ZIqZwpE/WMHTg8iiOdI/AAAAAAAADFQ/f78mnhea8j0XTgQjhUERQvYhTdzXT6aEQCLcB/s400/fullsizeoutput_7da.jpeg" width="377" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Instead of a design on the smaller black border, we stitched in the ditch on both sides to keep it simple.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The outside border? Oh my goodness! First I stitched around each appliqué and then stitched the stencils. Here's each corner. Aren't they cute?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-size: x-large;"><b>Wool Appliqué with Free Motion Quilting</b></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qohUaA9PZ5A/WL9__de8gfI/AAAAAAAADE4/-lDwZMpMwzAEwkJGViGPBqHMzARLfrAgwCEw/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7d4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qohUaA9PZ5A/WL9__de8gfI/AAAAAAAADE4/-lDwZMpMwzAEwkJGViGPBqHMzARLfrAgwCEw/s400/fullsizeoutput_7d4.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried something new! There seems to be very little time to actually sew, so I decided to broaden my horizons and try some projects that would give me something to do with my hands in the evening or while riding in the car. I really like the look of wool and decided to give wool appliqué a try. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It didn't turn out great as I know nothing about threads to use or embellishing techniques. In fact, I used sewing thread. It's not bad, just not what would be expected.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The design was appliquéd onto a gorgeous fat-quarter piece of hand-dyed Cherrywood fabric that looks like suede. I added some stabilizer to the fabric prior to adding the appliqué. When I realized I was off base with the appliqué, I decided to see if I could salvage it with some free motion quilting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I sandwiched the fabric with two layers of Hobbs 80/20 cotton wool, planned a lovely feather spine, grabbed some So Fine 50 weight thread, and started quilting feathers. Then I took a 60 weight Mettler embroidery thread and micro-stippled on the inside of the feathers around the appliqué and outside of the feathers by the border. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e2DzSHyCvqk/WL9__a8t80I/AAAAAAAADE8/KjFjINu4G9QhJHqy7Oca9-hhFMDuHijPQCEw/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7d5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e2DzSHyCvqk/WL9__a8t80I/AAAAAAAADE8/KjFjINu4G9QhJHqy7Oca9-hhFMDuHijPQCEw/s400/fullsizeoutput_7d5.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"> It doesn't fix it completely, but I like it! I think I'll get a kit next time and try to follow some directions! Have a super quilty week!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the more recent popular classes at our local quilt stores has been the curvy log cabin. There have been quite a few beautiful finishes. I must admit, it is really neat. It really "moves" with the curviness and brings a little more interest than the traditional log cabin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of these quilts I've seen quilted were done so with gorgeous, luxurious feathers. They were stunning, but all of the attention was given to the feathers. So here's a twist.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My customer brought her "curvy" with the statement that "I want movement, but I don't know what". Now this is not unusual for this customer, she almost always comes with a plan and I like that. Her quilts speak to her. But when I heard "movement, my eyes just enlarged. What a challenge.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So we both got on pinterest and started looking for what would fit the description of "movement."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are photos of some beginning ideas I drew using plexiglass and dry erase markers on top of the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ok. I've had it for the night. We'll take a fresh look at it in the morning.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>YES!! That's it. Movement and swirling in both the white and purple. This is it!</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vgGIGxUNLKQ/WLXfnjCZM_I/AAAAAAAADDI/Nf5dZ9D72HgN8W5q4dGGG-LqO-5Pz_P9wCLcB/s1600/50894978821__82587359-BDFD-485F-AD30-8492C0FA6C5A-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vgGIGxUNLKQ/WLXfnjCZM_I/AAAAAAAADDI/Nf5dZ9D72HgN8W5q4dGGG-LqO-5Pz_P9wCLcB/s400/50894978821__82587359-BDFD-485F-AD30-8492C0FA6C5A-2.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, the center called for a little break from the movement, so we softened it up just a bit with a combination of swirls and kind of feathers. A variation of this design was used around the sides of the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_5kyX__bL1U/WLXgdL4e6UI/AAAAAAAADDM/6U6uQ0K6mPMm2F_dDmxGzpM-67KTH6M0wCLcB/s1600/IMG_4895-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_5kyX__bL1U/WLXgdL4e6UI/AAAAAAAADDM/6U6uQ0K6mPMm2F_dDmxGzpM-67KTH6M0wCLcB/s400/IMG_4895-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What about thread? Because the quilt shined with batik fabrics, it seemed that some shiny tri-lobal polyesters might work so I put out several Isacord threads I had for my customer to choose from.</div>

So you get a better feel for timing versus design, this quilt is about 76.5" square and took about 13 hours to complete. </div>

I hope you enjoyed a look at the quilting process for this Curvy Purple Log Cabin quilt and that it will assist you in your own quilting endeavors. I love the finish and definitely feel we reached the goals of "movement"!</div>

Friday afternoon was Quilt Club over at Blakeman Vacuum and Sewing. Among a couple of other projects, I demo'd a heart block to add to quilting projects for February!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2yqZvo-98uE/WH0KOCfS41I/AAAAAAAADBE/-7mnu5Z6msIxd4NFe1_ZMZ6vLjjH-DBIwCLcB/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7c6.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="395" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2yqZvo-98uE/WH0KOCfS41I/AAAAAAAADBE/-7mnu5Z6msIxd4NFe1_ZMZ6vLjjH-DBIwCLcB/s400/fullsizeoutput_7c6.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That beautiful red is a fabric from Edyta Sitar with Laundry Basket Quilts. It was actually from the backing of a customer quilt. She decided that once it was quilted, she had no need for the fabric and gave me quite a bit of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As soon as quilt club was over, I quickly headed home for a weekend quilting retreat with a long time and awesome friend. My family was out of town and we had the weekend and the whole house to ourselves!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However, I was so busy during the week that I wasn't able to plan what to sew over the weekend. I looked at this block, which went together quickly, and thought: "What am I going to do?" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ta da! Put a few more heart blocks together and I had a fabulous table topper approximately 21" in diameter I love it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4UOSEBP2jYw/WH0KN8R10YI/AAAAAAAADBA/9GPvGi14KQgTkEvHq6o-14yRyumL-m54wCEw/s1600/fullsizeoutput_7c7.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="335" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4UOSEBP2jYw/WH0KN8R10YI/AAAAAAAADBA/9GPvGi14KQgTkEvHq6o-14yRyumL-m54wCEw/s400/fullsizeoutput_7c7.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, I might as well get the whole thing done or I knew I wouldn't get back to it! So I decided to quilt it on my domestic machine. First, stitch in the ditch with my new Line Tamer Ruler from Four Paws Quilting. This ruler is fantastic! It helps you to stay in the ditch and makes short work of what so many of us despise!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Usually Bottom Line thread by Superior Threads would be my choice for stitching in the ditch, but sometimes that gives me trouble on my domestic in the bobbins, and I don't have many bobbins. So I decided to use the same Aurifil 50 weight thread in beige that I was going to use for the free motion work. Not my first choice, but I think it worked fine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up was some lovely arched work using my Quilted Pineapple Curve ruler by Linda Hrcka. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Add to that some feathers and heavy stippling for the background fill and my table topper was complete! Plus, I added a circle wreath in the middle red using this simple template for drawing a circle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I am thrilled with the results on my Precious Hearts Table Topper! </div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gTIrgvhaazY/WGKgQiXv_PI/AAAAAAAAC-4/i7VAleA-rrIlCOT-tJYL4yXp4Sa41hNrwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gTIrgvhaazY/WGKgQiXv_PI/AAAAAAAAC-4/i7VAleA-rrIlCOT-tJYL4yXp4Sa41hNrwCLcB/s400/IMG_4744.jpg" width="355" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: left;">This past week found me with my favorites: quilting, purple fabric and free motion feathers! What a wonderful and challenging time of design!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
I've taken the month off from customer quilts to do a little quilting of my own. One of my plans was a relatively quick whole cloth wallhanging. What an experience! The best part was the opportunity to brainstorm and use an array of unusual tools to complete this pretty lavender fat-quarter-size whole cloth quilt. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First, I knew I wanted the simple scroll design with a feather and I could draw that freehand but I really wanted it encased in an oval.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1EeGwhyUAX8/WGKhdbhNnzI/AAAAAAAAC_Q/97K33zOQMI0R29PLcBLiPbhhvEd-R0TBQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4752.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1EeGwhyUAX8/WGKhdbhNnzI/AAAAAAAAC_Q/97K33zOQMI0R29PLcBLiPbhhvEd-R0TBQCLcB/s400/IMG_4752.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After looking everywhere, I saw this! My husband had taken this photo years ago when we were out pheasant hunting. It hangs in our hallway. What a great template!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wj9mlcScmF0/WGKeptquC9I/AAAAAAAAC-s/ibMWHULzgdcrs9aP-W2DhYp3nVBXJUDiACLcB/s1600/IMG_4739.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wj9mlcScmF0/WGKeptquC9I/AAAAAAAAC-s/ibMWHULzgdcrs9aP-W2DhYp3nVBXJUDiACLcB/s200/IMG_4739.jpg" width="166" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-size: x-large;">Perfect!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A pretty scallop or lacy effect would really add to that oval but how could that be accomplished? After brainstorming again, I remembered the scallops on this Handiquilter 8" ruler/template and decided it would be perfect to create the echoed scallops surrounding the oval.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f8XW7zML0Gw/WGKenerawNI/AAAAAAAAC-c/TBQWGxEFFXEqJ6hvQ9ieugEpB0hoUI75wCLcB/s1600/IMG_4741.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="175" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f8XW7zML0Gw/WGKenerawNI/AAAAAAAAC-c/TBQWGxEFFXEqJ6hvQ9ieugEpB0hoUI75wCLcB/s200/IMG_4741.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_JXTC4xTnLc/WGKhf0n3Q-I/AAAAAAAAC_c/h5I-pA6_IOguYSdQmbzfNm5GLZ-3cJpggCLcB/s1600/IMG_4754.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_JXTC4xTnLc/WGKhf0n3Q-I/AAAAAAAAC_c/h5I-pA6_IOguYSdQmbzfNm5GLZ-3cJpggCLcB/s320/IMG_4754.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And this quilters hexagon rotary ruler/template was just right the echoed angles surrounding the oval. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D1tIG2ma6CE/WGKenZQEnNI/AAAAAAAAC-g/utKp9IbXE1E5LS25DIxDbuQth0sgzCWWwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4741.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D1tIG2ma6CE/WGKenZQEnNI/AAAAAAAAC-g/utKp9IbXE1E5LS25DIxDbuQth0sgzCWWwCLcB/s320/IMG_4741.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-size: x-large;">Thread!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJDsdrGmbJw/WGKg8XWdj6I/AAAAAAAAC_E/Jty2bFsmBr0FpvA-rNzcMIT3nVK3G4A-wCLcB/s1600/IMG_4743.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJDsdrGmbJw/WGKg8XWdj6I/AAAAAAAAC_E/Jty2bFsmBr0FpvA-rNzcMIT3nVK3G4A-wCLcB/s200/IMG_4743.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The main design and feathers were stitched with Metallic 40 weight thread by Superior Threads in purple with the hearts and pebbles in the echoed areas in green.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The background area behind the feathered scroll was completed with this 1" on-point stencil grid designed by Gina Perkes. I had to move it a couple of times to fill the area but it worked great and I used the new 100 weight Microquilter by Superior Threads for that background stitching.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gJOxCnpeOi0/WGKg_-vb5XI/AAAAAAAAC_I/cyUQ0wlmKzo6wAOKcdzIS2kROYumbiOwACLcB/s1600/IMG_4742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="92" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gJOxCnpeOi0/WGKg_-vb5XI/AAAAAAAAC_I/cyUQ0wlmKzo6wAOKcdzIS2kROYumbiOwACLcB/s200/IMG_4742.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The final outside background I wanted to have blend more into the fabric so I changed to Prescencia 60 weight cotton in a lavender that blended perfectly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kl42vyJBG1E/WGKhfutCpjI/AAAAAAAAC_Y/tvCrrTSShQYA62oQVcgu4Z_zi4jXe72MQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4755.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kl42vyJBG1E/WGKhfutCpjI/AAAAAAAAC_Y/tvCrrTSShQYA62oQVcgu4Z_zi4jXe72MQCLcB/s320/IMG_4755.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This wall hanging took form step by step. It really wasn't planned all in advance but rather grew as each step was completed. I love it and am thrilled with the finish!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoyed the post on A Passion For Purple! Have a most blessed New Year and enjoy a wonderful quilty day looking at some at the creativity at the blogs on my sidebar!!</div>

<span style="color: #38761d; font-size: x-large;">Paper Piecing & Beautiful</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HnEHxPgvzqk/WEGsi19Sg4I/AAAAAAAAC9E/lI2bvxKrzVYCFUDBfJWTt5PJyWAajuHXwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4586.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HnEHxPgvzqk/WEGsi19Sg4I/AAAAAAAAC9E/lI2bvxKrzVYCFUDBfJWTt5PJyWAajuHXwCLcB/s640/IMG_4586.jpg" width="544" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This finished customer table topper/wall hanging is absolutely gorgeous and entailed so much work that the quilter decided she was willing to have the project quilted for judging or appraisal should she desire to have that done. So the quilting entails more work than is often put in to an everyday quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This little quilt finished at approximately 19" square so you can just imagine what the quilter was dealing with. Now what do I do????? The first step was choosing batting for the quilt sandwich and I went with two layers: Hobbs Tuscany 80/20 cotton/wool for the top layer and Hobbs 80/20 cotton/polyester for the bottom layer. This creates a bit of three dimension effect and allows the quilting to pop. If you'll look closely you can tell that the quilting began with most every seam stitched in the ditch. For a project this size, that was critical. So I began by going down the seams on every angle: diagonals, vertical and horizontal, and then stitched around each sawtooth star as well as the center square of each star. This resulted in every seam being stitch but one tiny area in each block that was not a concern. Now what????</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because of the size of this quilt, a photo did not work well so I layed my trusty plexiglass out on top with a dry erase marker and began dividing areas. The original plan was to do some very dense quilting but some beautiful designs started appearing that went well with the design and fabrics of this quilt. Here's what just the drawing on plexiglass looked like. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n-B31PJDHX4/WEGsh16O8tI/AAAAAAAAC9A/6A3MP4ArASQuBmbH3ASbUIOI7YtqJ0qFACLcB/s1600/IMG_4581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n-B31PJDHX4/WEGsh16O8tI/AAAAAAAAC9A/6A3MP4ArASQuBmbH3ASbUIOI7YtqJ0qFACLcB/s400/IMG_4581.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, what thread? When at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in November, I picked up the new 100 weight polyester Microquilter by Superior Threads and decided to use it in the bobbin throughout the quilt as well as for the top thread for the ditch stitching only. Isacord tri-lobal polyester in 40 weight in white and green was used for the remainder of the top quilting. Why Isacord? Why not one of my favorite cottons on a quilt like this? Well, it was actually a hard thought out decision. The answer? Isacord was the only one I could find with a thread that matched the green almost exactly. With the shiny appearance in the oriental style fabrics, I figured that would be ok. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8n1MZkpUvmA/WEG1zsEicOI/AAAAAAAAC9c/SXwZuz_iiFoYT0KAw0b9LBopENVhWJbRgCLcB/s1600/IMG_4621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8n1MZkpUvmA/WEG1zsEicOI/AAAAAAAAC9c/SXwZuz_iiFoYT0KAw0b9LBopENVhWJbRgCLcB/s320/IMG_4621.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><span id="goog_392549211"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the finished quilt. Once I started quilting it, I realized I needed something in the blocks around the sawtooth stars so we added a few feathers. The thin green lines following the green in the quilt created a ribbon-type of effect that was very soft and pleasing. The small outside border was finished with straight lines to bring the quilting to a close. The way the quilting was done, the stars really pop up off the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a5uk4RDAuBw/WEGshRgKLXI/AAAAAAAAC9Q/XLE9liEVLy4uHNVFJDxLEh7CPlIhARJsgCEw/s1600/IMG_4589.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a5uk4RDAuBw/WEGshRgKLXI/AAAAAAAAC9Q/XLE9liEVLy4uHNVFJDxLEh7CPlIhARJsgCEw/s400/IMG_4589.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The last of a group of six quilts brought to me for completion! Yay! This simple customer quilt is so cute and gorgeous with the addition of the appliquéd pansies in the main area and the butterfly in the top right corner.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Two instructions were given: all over quilting in the middle with pansies and feathers and do what you need to make the appliqués pop and become more interesting, but not too much. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once the quilt was sandwiched with Warm and Natural batting supplied by my customer, I began stitching in the center and working toward each appliqué piece to surround each with hidden stitching. The tiny bit of texture inside the appliqué pieces was added once the entire quilt was completed.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-51xIZSNAjoA/WDBqxu8ZdRI/AAAAAAAAC8U/gk4NF-pHgqwmFAQ78oyeTLXshJtHllWrQCEw/s1600/IMG_4571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-51xIZSNAjoA/WDBqxu8ZdRI/AAAAAAAAC8U/gk4NF-pHgqwmFAQ78oyeTLXshJtHllWrQCEw/s400/IMG_4571.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Swirls and leaves were used as the means to accomplish the all over quilting using a white (you got it!) 50 weight cotton Aurifil thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The gorgeous batik border was quilted in a soft pastel pink (you got it!) 50 weight cotton Aurfil thread with simple pansy feathers. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More often than not, I forget to photography the backing. This one was done in a soft pastel yellow and turned out so pretty that I managed to remember to grab some pictures.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love how this quilt finished; it is quite stunning in person. It has a good bit of back tracking but the Aurifil is so nice in that the 50 weight lays lovely and does not create build up. </div>

Most of my quilting is for customers but I snuck in a fast quilt and was looking forward to the opportunity to fill it with feathers. I call it:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Feathers of Venice</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xmgw1VC4gsA/WA4W0Vy3gRI/AAAAAAAAC6E/SS_zrkechcwxEq_vzxa6jZCwMUg8Tbn_ACEw/s1600/IMG_4456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xmgw1VC4gsA/WA4W0Vy3gRI/AAAAAAAAC6E/SS_zrkechcwxEq_vzxa6jZCwMUg8Tbn_ACEw/s400/IMG_4456.jpg" width="302" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am a natural romantic and both the fabric and feathers in this quilt speak romance. Hence the name.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This quilt was made using the 10 minute quilt block. There is a book available with different patterns but this entire block is demonstrated on youtube. It truly is sooooo easy and once you get it down, it's very easy to do a quilt in a day. For this block, you can actually use any size squares.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The fabric was Color Daze by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts by Moda. I just love her fabrics! For quilting I used Bottom Line by Superior Threads for stitching in the ditch and an Aurifil 50 weight thread in a light beige. I also used double 50/50 bamboo/cotton batting. As a side note, I am completely out of batting now and will be looking for a new supplier and also some wool in Houston next week!! So excited!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My first plan for quilting was to do feathered circle wreaths around each of the brown center squares. However, when I layed the whole quilt out, I saw nondescript circle areas offset from the four-part blocks. It appeared it would give the quilt more of a flow than just six wreaths set in block style. I love the effect. It also allowed for some cross hatching in the center of each wreath.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used half-circle templates by Handiquilter for the wreath circles and Quilted Pineapple rulers for the cross hatching. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-otK4fQ_kJhg/WA4WzBv_PTI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/qoI8_lwbgy0kC0aO5Qgrm7GKat1UZZtowCEw/s1600/IMG_4457.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-otK4fQ_kJhg/WA4WzBv_PTI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/qoI8_lwbgy0kC0aO5Qgrm7GKat1UZZtowCEw/s400/IMG_4457.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the outside double lace swages, I used a couple of Handiquilter swag rulers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2_YXc9wOqw/WA4WzhaenGI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/VBY8_9yE6xcG_lY5zyYsY-nH6BI6Sl8UwCEw/s1600/IMG_4458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2_YXc9wOqw/WA4WzhaenGI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/VBY8_9yE6xcG_lY5zyYsY-nH6BI6Sl8UwCEw/s400/IMG_4458.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And for the outside straight lines I used the Handiquilter 8" ruler. That ruler was also used for stitch in the ditch prior to any quilting. With that extra stitching the quilt lays nice and flat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xI2Y57q-mcQ/WA4W_bQUzdI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/ZnlDirxbYawwS2kTmbeipjM3FhLLQDLSgCEw/s1600/IMG_4461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xI2Y57q-mcQ/WA4W_bQUzdI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/ZnlDirxbYawwS2kTmbeipjM3FhLLQDLSgCEw/s400/IMG_4461.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I debated on whether to quilt anything on the brown center blocks because there is a heavy seam right in the center, but decided to do a very simple design that left the center open.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tz22hMWsK5Q/WA4W_EaZAvI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/HYBohg_Oiw4jMGFuVsciIFYLmMro1WR7wCEw/s1600/IMG_4463.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tz22hMWsK5Q/WA4W_EaZAvI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/HYBohg_Oiw4jMGFuVsciIFYLmMro1WR7wCEw/s400/IMG_4463.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am so thrilled with this finish and mostly that I get to keep it! It will also be used as a sample for my feather classes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And that's Feathers of Venice! Hope you enjoyed and picked up some ideas. Give the 10 minute block a try. This quilt top, with one layer cake, finished at just under 50" x 70". What a great throw!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #ea9999; font-size: large;"><b>Kitty in the Window!</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SlNIS3TLskw/V-6U0k_lWQI/AAAAAAAAC4g/FF7mCDLARPsQsd2Im7xN9T9SM8ezCxfdwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SlNIS3TLskw/V-6U0k_lWQI/AAAAAAAAC4g/FF7mCDLARPsQsd2Im7xN9T9SM8ezCxfdwCLcB/s400/IMG_4341.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to the kind comments on Step Out Of The Box! I worked intensely for over a month on that quilt and I was "dog" tired! So I decided to chase a cat! :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seriously, this quilt was brought to me by a customer during the process of the auction quilt. She said she could wait until the end of September so I told her I would fit it in between Step Out Of The Box and other customer quilts I still need to get done. It was a magnificent break; love this little quilt (even if I'm not a cat person)!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So Kitty in the Window measures approximately 20" x 26" and is a wedding gift for a friend of the owner. I used Aurifil 50 weight thread throughout this quilt in a few different colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's how I broke it down: first, stitch in the ditch around the designs and then around the inner section and the outer border. Next, background quilting in the blue window and a few way lines across the vase for security.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-63AFvcbnRIw/V-6WQqU0KGI/AAAAAAAAC4w/m_c-9sK_QyEcWRQmrQ8miDBGf-8ceTfOACLcB/s1600/IMG_4336.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-63AFvcbnRIw/V-6WQqU0KGI/AAAAAAAAC4w/m_c-9sK_QyEcWRQmrQ8miDBGf-8ceTfOACLcB/s400/IMG_4336.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then some swirls in the top of the cat to give a little texture and straight lines with ruler on the window sill to add depth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iAlZcq1i3Ac/V-6WQn5O4XI/AAAAAAAAC4s/9UBty7-94rkhp3IOHI9t-EAJ8_MbLglRQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iAlZcq1i3Ac/V-6WQn5O4XI/AAAAAAAAC4s/9UBty7-94rkhp3IOHI9t-EAJ8_MbLglRQCLcB/s400/IMG_4339.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And finally, I LOVE FEATHERS! So yes, feathers around the top and two sides in a light rose shade and then on the bottom in a light blue.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X6ETPD-hg2c/V-6WSDAb3II/AAAAAAAAC44/411Wils98PIaUtrEOg1EhfzFgpM6pADdACLcB/s1600/IMG_4340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X6ETPD-hg2c/V-6WSDAb3II/AAAAAAAAC44/411Wils98PIaUtrEOg1EhfzFgpM6pADdACLcB/s400/IMG_4340.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Absolutely love this little quilt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
